San Diego Science Festival

San Diego Science Festival logo

The San Diego Science Festival is a collaboration of more than 125 leading science organizations including the San Diego Science Alliance, CONNECT, BIOCOM, N.D.I.A., and other key local organizations and media partners - and is organized by community members and the University of California, San Diego.

The mission of the Festival is to draw on the strengths of San Diego’s corporate and organizational diversity across STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) industries in order to advance the local and National economy by building a pipeline of future scientists.

ScienceBridge's partnership role is to ensure that the goals of the Festival are practiced throughout the year through teacher education, student programs and community outreach.

The sciCenter exists to make scientists, educators and the media professionals who support them, the best science communicators they can be.

Science Leadership Society

students at sea worldUCSD students are integral to the success of the ScienceBridge programs. A key part of our mission is to bridge the gap between science and education in a manner that is meaningful to students. Bringing undergraduate students together with high school students builds relationships that foster the scientific community on many levels; this student-to-student interface is an important link to uniting science with science education.

The Science Leadership Society canvases the entire ScienceBridge program, allowing all members the chance to advance through the society, earning skills and opportunities, becoming Science Leaders.

You can write or create media for the ScienceBridge website and have your articles, videos, and podcasts featured and promoted to other science website partners. All members can earn opportunities to coordinate leadership trainings, teaching their valuable skills to others. Active members receive invitations to special events designed to entertain and promote networking.

ScienceBridge Labs

ScienceBridge Labs interface world-class scientists, leading technology companies, high school students and science educators to develop innovative laboratory activities based on current research. Opportunities include supporting ScienceBridge staff at training sessions, supporting teachers in the classroom.  Experienced Science Leaders can also offer one-on-one lab consultations and reviews.

Socrates Fellows

The Socrates Fellows Program—funded by the National Science Foundation as a GK-12 grant to UCSD—awards 12-month fellowships to eligible UCSD PhD students and stipends for eligible San Diego-area teachers to work together to enhance the science classroom. These pairs develop and implement compelling, inquiry-based science lessons. Socrates PhD Fellows and Teacher Partners participate in a five-week summer institute followed by a productive collaboration during the academic year.

Building relationships between teachers, students, undergraduates, and graduate level researchers is an important part of embracing education into the science community.
